Yellow Line or Line 2 was the second line of Delhi Metro to be opened in phases after the Red Line; its first section was inaugurated on December 20, 2004. It is one of the longest and busiest lines on the system, and the two busiest stations — Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate — are both part of it. Yellow Line is 48.8 km long and it has 37 stations between Samaypur Badli in the north and HUDA City Centre in the south. Broad gauge (1676 mm) tracks and 25 kV AC via overhead catenary are used on the line. The frequency of the trains (comprising six or eight coaches) varies depending on the time of day, but it can be even less than 1 minute, whereas the top speed of the trains is 80 km/h.
