Defence Colony is an upscale neighbourhood in the heart of South Delhi. As the name suggests, this locality was built for ex-defence service personnel and has today developed into a buzzing area with many restaurants, cafes, bakeries, hi-end shops and all essential civic amenities. Major establishments in this area are Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, State Council of Educational Research, Council for American Education, Panama Embassy, Defence Colony Club, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital and Durga Puja Park. Owing to its location on Ring Road, hotels in Defence Colony make a preferable option for travellers who wish to stay in South Delhi and have easy access to other parts of the city.
Shopping and Dining in and around Defence Colony
Shopping lovers staying at Defence Colony hotels can rejoice as its Main Market and Flyover Market are lined with multiple stores. The Standard Store, Yell and Rena Love are some of the most popular shops in the area for apparels. Lajpat Nagar (1.9 km), South Ex I & II (2 km), M Block Market GK-I (3.5 km), Dilli Haat (4.6 km) and Sarojini Nagar (5.4 km) are popular markets nearby. Malls like DLF Place and Select Citywalk are also located close by, at a distance of around 7 km.
The locality is immensely popular for the multi-cuisine dining options it offers. Kent’s Fast Food, CJ’s Fresh, Concept Shawarma, AKU’s – The Burger Co., Sagar Ratna, Hong Kong Express, Café Yell, Uncle Tango, The Turkey Project, The Good Bowl and 28 Capri Italy are among the most popular cafes and restaurants here. Other places of tourist interest like Safdarjung Tomb, National Museum, National Zoological Park, Sri Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, Lodhi Garden, Agrasen ki Baoli and Mehrauli Archaeological Park can also be reached within 30 minutes from Delhi hotels in Defence Colony.
How to Reach Defence Colony
Owing to its central location, Defence Colony is easily accessible from the rest of the city and nearby regions like Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon by autos, taxis, DTC buses as well as the Delhi Metro. The nearest metro station to the area is Lajpat Nagar, which falls on the Violet Line. Hazrat Nizammudin (5 km) and New Delhi Railway Station (10 km) are the city’s main railheads close to the locality while Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 17 km away.

ACs were not working, the building is under construction and was not informed by hotel management. The door latches are broken, the walls are leaving putty, washroom was dirty. Only good thing I got was a spacious room.

I had a very disappointing experience during my stay at this hotel. The room lacked basic privacy the curtains were either missing or not properly placed, leaving the room exposed. Since it was on the ground floor, anyone from outside could easily see inside, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Safety was also a major concern. There were no visible security features like CCTV near the room, and the locks didnt feel reliable. I didnt feel secure staying there. The AC wasnt working, and when I complained, the staff came and removed the unit entirely for repairs, causing noise and disturbance for over 3 hours. The room didnt have proper ventilation either, and overall, the condition was not what I expected from a hotel brand like Fab. Some noteworthy (but not in a good way) details: There were no basic toiletries provided. The bedsheets and towels didnt feel clean or fresh. Room lighting was dull, making the space feel even more uncomfortable. Soundproofing was poor I could hear noise from the hallway and other rooms. There also werent any good restaurants or places of interest nearby, making it hard to enjoy the location. Overall, I wouldnt recommend this hotel, and I will avoid FabHotels in the future.

Cash stolen from our bags while we were outside the hotel on 9th April 2025 between 6 AM to 11 pm approx. We informed hotel staff also regarding this incidence and asked them to inform us regarding this.
