Indian Railways News, May 14, 2020: 

Indian Railways in another major announcement today stated that barring Shramik trains and special trains started on 1st May & 12th May, respectively, all regular train tickets till June 30 have been cancelled. Passengers will be given a full refund for the same. These tickets were booked during lockdown when the IRCTC was allowing bookings for journeys in June.

Regular mail, passenger, express and suburban trains of the Indian Railways were suspended on March 25 due to the COVID-19-triggered nation-wide lockdown.

Indian Railways News, May 11, 2020: 

Indian Railways to Partially Resume Services from 12th May | Important News You Need to Know

Yesterday, in an attempt to provide relaxation amid the coronavirus lockdown, the Indian Railways announced partially resuming passenger train services. While the operations will start from May 12, the bookings for the same will open from May 11th at 4 pm. These special trains will operate in a pair of 15 routes from New Delhi to other major Indian cities including Howrah, Dibrugarh, Jammu, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna, Mumbai and Agartala.

The Indian Railways also added that passengers will be able to book tickets online on the official IRCTC website only as all ticket booking counters at stations will remain closed to maintain minimum interaction.

This Gandhi Jayanti Indian Railways to Ban Single-Use Plastic

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the nation to shun single-use plastic during his Independence Day speech, Indian Railways has decided to impose a ban on the same on its premises starting from 2nd October, 2019. Reports suggest that approximately 6,289-ton plastic waste is found on India’s railway tracks, and this noteworthy measure has been taken to minimize it and emphasise eco-friendly disposal. Following the ban, Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry has instructed all its units across the country to cut the use of single-use plastic (that isn’t less than 50 microns). Read more

Live Train Running Status of Indian Railways

Often, passengers want to know the exact location of a train that has departed from its originating station. Indian Railways has come up with facilities that allow you to track your train in real time – that is, get the live location of your train at the time of tracking. In addition to showing where your train is currently at, this gives you latest info about your train such as its time of departure, real-time delay, and estimated delay and time of arrival at each station on the route. Indian Railways e-Tickets

Electronic tickets, more popularly known as e-Tickets, are the digital equivalent of paper tickets. Earlier, passengers had to go to PRS booking centers of Indian Railways and fill up a reservation form to reserve seats and obtain paper tickets. However, with the advent of technology and digitalization, Indian Railways has introduced the facility of paperless electronic tickets aka e-Tickets for passengers. Today, you can book e-Tickets online through your computers or smart phones from the comfort of your home provided that you have access to the internet. You can also cancel your e-Tickets, change the boarding point, transfer it to a family member, and avail a number of other services related to e-Ticket booking. Indian Railways Seat Availability

In order to help passengers plan their journey and book train tickets in advance, Indian Railways has introduced the facility of checking seat availability online. That is, if you are planning to travel in an Indian Railway train on a specific date, you can check whether seats/berths are available in that train for the date, quota, and travel class of your specification. You can also look for all the trains running between your source station and the destination station, and get the seat availability in each train for all available classes and quotas.

The seat availability facility offered by Indian Railways gives you real-time details – that is, the availability of seats in a train at the exact hour and minute of your checking. It keeps changing as and when seats are filled in the train. Read more

Indian Railway (IRCTC) Refund Rules for Train Ticket cancellation

When you cancel a reserved train ticket, you are entitled to get a full or partial refund of the amount you paid for the ticket during the time of reservation.
