After making waves in Chennai and Coimbatore, India’s first-of-its-kind ‘Robot Restaurant’ has finally entered Bengaluru’s culinary scene. Launched recently on 100 Ft. Road in the upmarket Indiranagar area, this brainchild of restauranteur, Venkatesh Rajendran, will give diners a taste of the future with its robot staff. Done in vibrant white and blue colours and sporting colourful scarves along with their name tag, these Android-based robots are sourced from China and run on Japanese technology.

The restaurant is spread across an area of 3700 sq. ft. and can accommodate a little over 100 diners. It has a team of six feminine robots, including a queen usher to welcome guests at the entrance and five bearers to serve food. A digital tablet is provided on every table at the restaurant for customers to place their orders. Once the food is ready, it will be brought over by a robot, guided by magnetic strips attached on the floor. There is extra space between aisles for their seamless navigation.

Founder Venkatesh Rajendran shared that these humanoids are quite interactive and have a built-in facial recognition technology. The queen robot uses retina verification to identify customers on their multiple visits. The tech-savvy servers are also equipped to sing birthday songs for guests celebrating their special day. He further shared that these robots can run for 24 hours on 3-hour charging.

Some of the staff members of the restaurant are trained to handle the robots in case of malfunction. Karthikeyan Ramesh, General Manager of the restaurant said, “An average of 500 to 600 people visit the restaurant per day in a matter of seven hours, and we are delighted to see how excited everyone is. We have had no free minute at work since the launch.” The food served at the restaurant is a mix of Indian, Chinese, and Continental, and the menu also has a variety of exotic mocktails on it.
